Crime Awareness & Campus Security Act of 1990

Updated October 2009.  This report was prepared by the Vice President for Operations and Finance  and published by the Marketing & Communications Department.

A)  Students and others are to report occurrences of criminal actions or other emergencies occurring on campus to the following individuals or their designees, depending upon the time and location of the criminal actions or other emergencies.  These individuals and the campus security service will in turn report occurrences to the Vice President for Operations and Finance in a timely manner.  The Vice President for Operations and Finance  will take prompt action to appropriately respond to each report.

The College Catalog, Security Handbook, Student Handbook, Board Policy Manual and other official College publications, contain policies concerning the student grievance procedure, the faculty grievance procedure, and the student conduct committee procedure.

B)  Permission for the use of all campus facilities must be secured from the Vice President for Operations and Finance.  Request to use classrooms are made through the Academic Services Office; requests to use the Student Union cafeteria or Oak Room are made through the Director of Food Service; and requests to use Nellis Hall are made through the Athletic Office.  The College facilities, residence halls, and parking lots are secured by a contracted security service during the hours of 9 p.m. - 6 a.m.

C)  The campus security service has the authority to enforce College security policies.  The campus security service works through the Coffeyville Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department to enforce state and city laws.  Students are encouraged to report all crimes which occur on campus to the appropriate College official or the local police agency.  Police, fire or ambulance can be reached by calling 911.

D)  Workshops and briefings are conducted at faculty in-service meetings to acquaint employees with campus security policies and procedures and to encourage them to be responsible for their own security and the security of others.

Presentations are made at the beginning of each semester during student orientation and residence hall orientation to acquaint students with campus security policies and procedures and to encourage them to be responsible for their own security and the security of others.  In addition, the Student Government Association sponsors workshops each semester to explore and discuss these issues.

E)  In addition to the presentations listed above (D), students and employees are encourage to attend campus assemblies and other programs which may be presented to inform them about campus crime prevention.  Publications and brochures about crime prevention are made available to students and employees.

F)  Below are statistics concerning the occurrence on all CCC campuses of the following criminal offenses reported to campus security authorities or local police agencies:

It is the goal of Coffeyville Community College to provide students with a safe and secure learning environment.  We wish to eliminate crime on all campuses, not just reduce it.  

G)  The College does not have off-campus student organizations or off-campus student housing facilities.

H)  Policies regarding the possession, use, and sale of alcoholic beverages; the State underage drinking laws; the possession, use, and sale of illegal drugs; enforcement of federal and state drug laws; and drug and alcohol abuse education programs are contained in the Student Handbook, Security Handbook and the Board Policy Manual.
