Former Raven Carpenter key part of Alabama’s national title team
When Alabama defeated Texas for the 2009 BCS National Football Championship on January 7 in Pasadena, California, several people in Coffeyville had more than a casual interest in the outcome. Included was Coffeyville Community College Head Football Coach Darian Dulin who watched former Raven James Carpenter play left tackle for the Crimson Tide. [more]
2010 schedule released
The Red Ravens will have four regular season home games according to the 2010 schedule released Jan. 26 by the Jayhawk Conference. The Ravens will begin the season by hosting Tyler, Texas on Aug. 28 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Ravens will stay at home for week two when the Dodge City Conquistadors pay a visit to Coffeyville on September 4. The Ravens will also have home games on October 2 against Highland and on October 16 with Butler. Road games for Coffeyville include Garden City on September 11, Fort Scott on September 25, Highland on October 9, Independence on October 23 and Hutchinson on October 30. Coffeyville finished the 2009 season with a 7-4 overall record and were ranked #12 in the final NJCAA poll. [2010 Schedule]
Ravens 12th in final poll
With an impressive showing in the North Star Bowl, the Ravens jumped from 19th to 12th in the final NJCAA football poll released on Dec. 7. The Ravens completed the 2009 campaign with a 7-4 record with all four losses occurring to teams ranked in top ten nationally.
Ravens pull away for 54-12 win over Rochester in North Star Bowl
The Coffeyville Red Ravens scored 37 unanswered points in the final 15:14 to run
away with a 54-12 win over the Rochester Community and Technical Yellowjackets in
the North Star Bowl on Nov. 21 in Rochester, Minnesota.
Rochester, which trailed 17-0, pulled to within five, 17-12, on Michael Kusnierz’s fourth consecutive field goal with 21 seconds left in the third quarter. The game’s momentum turned abruptly on a questionable decision on the ensuing Rochester kickoff. [more]
Ravens honor 2009 top performers at banquet
The Red Ravens awarded top performers from the 2009 season at an awards banquet held at the Dick Foster Athletic Complex on November 16. Freshman running back Mulku Kalokoh was named Offensive MVP. Sophomore linebacker Talris Brown was named Defensive MVP. The team MVP was awarded to freshman quarterback Andy Summerlin. [more]
Summerlin sets school passing record
Quarterback Andy Summerlin took advantage of the Ravens’ spread offense and set a
new school record for the most passing yards in a season. Summerlin threw for 138
yards in Nov. 8’s region playoff loss to Butler to reach a season total of 2,302
yards, surpassing the previous mark of 2,177 yards held by Mike Long in 1978. It’s
the second school record set this season by Summerlin. In the season opener at Navarro,
Summerlin completed 32 passes to tie the school record for the most completions in
a game. Summerlin tied Michael Machen who completed 32 passes in a game against
Butler in 2004.
Ravens land 17 players on All-Conference Teams
Seventeen Red Raven football players were selected to the All-Conference Team in 2009. First team selections included tight end Brandon Mosley, center Brock Hallman, quarterback Andy Summerlin, defensive lineman Tony Gillespie and safety Reggie America. Second team selections were wide receiver Quinton Patton, guard Nick Puetz, running back Mulku Kalokoh, and linebacker Talris Brown. Honorable mention selections included wide receiver Anthony Sanchez, wide receiver Eddie Shields, tackle Colby Duranleau, defensive lineman Sylvester Williams, defensive end John Robles, linebacker Emmanuel Jackson, corner back Larry Burnshire and kicker Kelyn Pohlman.
Pohlman gets National Player of the Week honors

CCC kicker Kelyn Pohlman was named NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts on Oct. 10. In Coffeyville’s 44-38 overtime win over Hutchinson, Pohlman connected on all five extra point attempts and also nailed a 20 yard field goal in helping Coffeyville erase a 31-7 third quarter deficit. Pohlman is a freshman from Burrton, Kansas.
Jackson gets national player of the week award
Emmanuel Jackson was named the NJCAA National Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts on Sept. 12 against Air Force Prep. Jackson's play on special teams proved to be the difference in Coffeyville's four-point (22-18) win. Jackson blocked an Air Force Prep extra point in the first half and then blocked a Husky field goal attempt late in the fourth quarter with the Red Ravens trailing 18-13. Coffeyville then rallied to score nine points in the final six minutes of the game for their first win of the season.
