Basketball Times rate Ravens third best junior college program of the decade
When Jay Herkelman took over the reins of the Coffeyville Community College men’s
basketball program in 1995, he inherited a team in disarray. The Ravens were coming
off a 3-26 season and two of those wins were garnered by forfeits.
Herkelman replaced the roster and led Coffeyville to a 26-7 record and the Jayhawk East conference title in his first season. Since then, Coffeyville has enjoyed considerable success. In the past decade, the Ravens have won five Region 6 championships, won eight conference titles over the past nine seasons, and have placed at the national tournament five times. [more]

Kevin Broussard was the leading scorer with 16 points, and Eric Hardyway dished out a team-high six assists for the Ravens, 20-11 overall on the season. Karon Burton scored 22 points to pace the Cougars who finish the year with a 16-15 record.

The Ravens, 21-11 overall, will play Hutchinson, an 80-72 winner over Garden City, at 5 p.m. on Sunday in a Region 6 semifinal game. Hutchinson will enter with a 27-5 record and the #11 ranking in the latest NJCAA poll. The winner will advance to Monday’s Region Championship Game.

Stifling defense propels Ravens to 64-51 win over #11 Hutchinson in Region 6 semifinal game, play Butler for Region 6 title
The Red Ravens held Hutchinson to 34% field goal shooting and forced 20 turnovers to key a 64-51 win over the Blue Dragons in a Region 6 semifinal game on Sunday evening in Wichita. The win advances the Ravens to the Region 6 championship game on Monday. The Ravens will play #15 Butler at 8 p.m. at the Koch Arena on the campus of Wichita State University.
Against Hutchinson, Coffeyville led 33-21 at the half. Hutchinson would never mount a serious threat in the second half and never cut the lead to single digits. Kevin Broussard scored 16 points to pace the Ravens attack. Jermaine Bransford had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds and Keith Biggers scored 10 points. Bruce Reed was the lone Blue Dragon in double-figures with 12 points.
