Allie Bufford and Jasmine ManuelBufford and Manuel sign with Southwestern College

Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, signed two Coffeyville Community College women’s basketball players.  Point guard Allie Bufford and shooting guard Jasmine Manuel both inked with the Lady Builders at a signing ceremony on April 20.

Bufford has been a back-up point guard at Coffeyville, playing behind All-Conference standout Tarita Gordon the past two seasons.  Bufford saw action in 25 games this past season, averaging 0.8 points per game, dishing out 34 assists and hauling in 32 rebounds.

Manuel saw action in 32 games for Coffeyville this past season.  Manuel, a transfer from Oklahoma Christian University, averaged 8.1 points per game this past season.  Manuel led Coffeyville in three-point field goal shooting percentage at 44%.  Manuel also nailed a team leading 48 three-pointers in 109 attempts.

Both players were recruited by former Coffeyville women’s basketball assistant coach Jack McNickle, who now serves as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Southwestern.

“I first talked to Southwestern at the first Cowley game and they popped up everywhere else,” said Manuel.  “They recruited me out of high school as well,” added Manuel who attended Edison High School in Tulsa.

Bufford, who shares a quad with Manuel in the women’s dormitory at Coffeyville, also caught the attention of the Southwestern coaching staff.

“Their point guard tore an ACL, so they needed a point guard,” said Bufford.  “Jasmine was going to Southwestern and we decided to go there together.  It all worked out for us,” said Bufford.

Manuel was also recruited by Missouri Valley and Central Missouri State.  Bufford  received attention from Texas Wesleyan,  Wiley College (Texas), and Baker University.

As for their role next season, it will be similar to what they played at Coffeyville.  “We both are supposed to come in and push the tempo and shoot,” said Bufford.
