Coffeyville Community College uses a well known service to distribute photographs taken by college staff at a variety of college events throughout the year.  SmugMug allows visitors the peruse through a plethora of photo albums and gives the visitor various options for ordering glossy prints and photos on a variety of other merchandise (t-shirts, mugs, etc.).  However. . . .

Photos are NOT copyright protected.  Full resolution photos can be saved directly to your hard drive by right-clicking on the full-sized photo (not the thumbnail), selecting Save Picture As from the menu that appears, and then choosing a location on your hard drive to save the photo.  This gives you the option of printing photos from home or creating your own digital photo gallery.  

The most cost effective option depends on your a variety of factors such as model of home printer, number of pictures you want to print, yada, yada, yada.  Generally, because of shipping cost associated with SmugMug, it is cheaper to print one or two photos on the home printer.  However, if you have a large number of photos (10 or more as a guide) it is generally cheaper to order through SmugMug.  This is a rule of thumb, but obviously each case is unique and consulting with someone who has stayed the night at a Holiday Inn Express might be required.

Does the college make money selling photos with SmugMug?  We make enough each year to pay the fees required to provide this service.
